UN Summer Course - meeting 4 materials

Dear All,

Thanks again for coming to our meeting and being so active yesterday – kindly see attached presentations from yesterday’s speakers, as well as following this link epidemiological data on HIV and AIDS in Ukraine http://unaids.org.ua/situation (you may find a list of interesting reports and other reference materials at the end of this page).

  

Today we will continue our course at 3:00pm  at the UN House (1, Klovsky Uzviz) with the following agenda:

-          3:00pm-4:00pm: Continuation of group work on Sustainable Development Goals

-          4:00pm-4:40pm: Volunteering for peace and development by Shinobu Mashima, UNV Programme Officer in Ukraine

-          4:40pm-5:20pm: Presentation of “Community Based Approach Project in Ukraine” by Olena Ruditch, UNDP Ukraine

-          5:30pm-6:30pm: Presentation of Sustainable Development Goals group work results

-      6:30pm-8:00pm: Labour migration workshop by Varvara Zhluktenko, IOM Mission in Ukraine  

Sustainable Development Goals workshop – as seen from the agenda, today you will still have time to work on your SDGs with your small groups, as well as to present the results of your group discussion to the others. We will also get Natalia Sitnikova to comment on your SDGs, so let’s expect a lively discussion on those!

Project development workshop – kindly see attached all the materials distributed to you at yesterday’s workshop also in an electronic form. We will continue working on your projects on Saturday and will then also present your draft ideas to the rest of the group, after which you will still have an opportunity to polish those at home and in consultation with Davron and myself before finally submitting those to us (let’s agree on the deadline for submissions on Saturday).

Problem statement: People in the community use natural resources in an unsustainable manner causing harm to other people, animals and livelihoods

Project goal: Sustainable use of natural resources in the community

Project objective: To increase local people’s awareness on sustainable use natural resources in the community

Project outputs and outcomes:

Output 1: 3 short videos produced showcasing consequences of unsustainable use of natural resources in the community and solutions to those	Outcome 1.1:  Local youth’s engagement in volunteer activities increased as a result of their participation in the project Outcome 1.2: Local youth’s enhanced understanding of the sustainable use of natural resources as a result of their participation in the project

Visibility: A special event will be organized at local school to screen videos and exhibit photos; after their launch, videos and photos will be kept public in a visible place in the community; videos and photos will also be put online; local media will be invited to cover the video screening and photo exhibition at the local news outlets

Evaluation: Number of youth taking part in development of photo / video stories; number of local people taking part in photo / video stories’ screening
