UN Ukraine Summer Course 2014: The World We Want
Social Justice Human Library

Scenario
As
part of “UN Ukraine Summer Course 2014: The World We Want” teaching module
TOP-1 Ukrainian development priority – Equality of opportunities and social
justice, a “Social Justice Human Library”
featuring representatives of disadvantaged and vulnerable groups will be
organized to enhance participants’ understanding of social inequalities in
Ukraine.
The
Human Library will feature as “Human Books” five representatives of vulnerable
groups, who are also beneficiaries of the UN work in Ukraine. Their role is to
give participants insights into the everyday challenges the members of these
groups face, as well as to tell participants about potential solutions to
improve these groups’ position in the society.
During
the Human Library, participants will in small groups of six people visit each “Human
Book” in turn to hear about their experiences and ask “Human Books” questions, which participants
are asked to prepare in advance.
A
thorough debriefing is to follow the Human Library to deepen participants’ learning
experience and give “Human Books” a chance to share their feelings about the
interaction with Ukrainian youth.
The
Social Justice Human Library will be facilitated by Victoria Andrievska, UN
Communication Officer at the United Nations Office in Ukraine.
