Project summary, objectives & main activities
Summary
"Let's Shape Our Future Ourselves" TC aims at providing rural youth workers and youth leader
with competences to build the capacities of young people as leaders and encourages civic activism
in their communities.
Training course will take part in Hermon village, Vayots Dzor region, Armenia from the 25th
until
30th
of April, 2014. We invite our partner countries from Europe and neighbor partner countries (4
participants from each country from 18 to 30 years old).
Specific objectives are:
Reflect upon the role of young people as community leaders; explore the ways
of reveling and developing leadership potential of rural youth;
Encourage active participation of young people, by means of providing them
tools for participation, project creation and management, creativity and
community changes;
Provide participants with space to exchange best practices;
Equip participants with knowledge and tools for getting involved in
international youth work and encourage cooperation while implementing such
projects within and beyond Youth Programme;
Promote solidarity and tolerance of project participants by creating a platform
to acquire alternative and positive information about youth from different
countries

Team of Organizers
Training course is organized by Syunik NGO, Armenia together with project partner organizations:
Regional Network of Peace and Reintegration – Georgia, National Youth Council of Switzerland, Center for
European Initiatives – Ukraine, Citizens of Europe – Germany, ASOCIACIÓN CAZALLA
INTERCULTURAL –Spain.
The training will be delivered by two experienced trainers:

Venue/accommodation/meals
Accommodation: The project will be organized in the Vayots Dzor region of Armenia. The
participants will be accommodated in ‘’Lucy-Tour’’ Hotel Resort. The Hotel Resort is 146 km
south from Yerevan and 25 km north of Yeghegnadzor, capital of Vayots Dzor. The modern
"LucyTour" Hotel Resort, located in Hermon village, provides all of the amenities needed to

Meals: Armenian traditional food with mixture of European cousin you will serve during the
Training Course. If you have some special needs for food (Religious needs, celiac, etc.), please,
inform us about it beforehand.
Transportation/travel
Arrival Day – 25 April, 2014.
Departure Day-30
April, 2014.
You will arrive to the Zvartnots International
Airoport of Armenia. Our advice: After ticket
arrangements please let us know what time you
will arrive to Zvartnots International Airport.
At the entrance of gate you will see the poster
with name of Training Course. Please follow
up to the poster and you will meet with
project's organizer team. We will pick you up
from airport, which will make it much easier
for you. In some cases you will wait for other
participants from project partner countries in
some hours at the airport.
Reimbursement
The organisers will reimburse 70% of your travel costs from your home city to the pick-up point in
Armenia.
Reimbursement of travel costs will only be done upon full attendance in the TC activity and
presentation of the original tickets with boarding passes and receipts/invoices.

Reimbursement will be done in Armenian Dram (AMD). We will
calculate your travel costs according to the exchange rates from
official European Commission web-site for the month of ticket
purchase

*Please consult the maximum amount of travel reimbursement (the 70%) per country per person. If
your travel costs exceed the amount budgeted in the project, we will be able to reimburse you 70%
of the travel costs indicated in the travel budget table!

Prepare for our intercultural evenings: Participants should bring some typical food and drinks from
their country. Country participants will also have a chance to present Your Home country –
presentation should take not more than 10 minutes. Be creative! Share with other participants things
that are interesting (which cannot be found on Wikipedia or YouTube!).
For the activities you can bring:
Presentations about the traditional habits and symbols of your culture (but NOT power point
which you can find on YouTube!);
music from your country (on CD’s, DVD’s, USB stick);
traditional costumes;

a flag and info about your culture and country

Local time
Armenia Standard Time is 4 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+4). Starting from 2012
Armenia has abolished daylight saving time.
National currency and currency exchange
Armenian national currency is Armenian Dram (AMD). 1 Euro is about 536 AMD. Euros can be
changed at banks and special exchange shops.
Climate
The climate of Vayots Dzor is known for its dryness and continental characteristics. The Marz
enjoys an exceptional amount of good weather, with only 30 to 40 sunless days each year. Vayots
Dzor enjoys more sunny days than any other province in Armenia.
The amount of average annual precipitation varies from 390 to 780 millimeters.
The summer temperatures are typically around 26°C (depending on altitude), and winter
temperatures average about -8°C.
The annual snow fall in lowland areas from 10 to 76 centimeters and in mountainous areas can
reach up to 2 meters.

Armenia is located in the South Caucasus, bordered by Georgia from the north, Iran from the south,
Azerbaijan from the north-east and the south-west and Turkey from the west. The Republic of
Armenia occupies a territory of 29 800 square km, lying at an average altitude of 1800 meters above
sea level. The highest point is Mount Aragats (4090m), while the lowest point is the valley of the
Debed River (400m). The capital is Yerevan. According to the general census of 2003 the
population of Armenia is 3,2 million, 1,1 million of which lives in Yerevan.

card (only Viva cell and Beeline functioning
at the venue) can be purchased at Zvartnots
International Airport, at the offices of these
operators or at the big stores, having the
passport copy.

The official language is Armenian, a separate branch of the Indo-European language family. The
Armenian letters are radically different from the letters of other languages. Generally the state
buildings and public places are also marked with Latin-letter signboards. Besides Armenian,
Russian is also widely used, and many can communicate in English, too.
The state religion in Armenia is Christianity which was adopted in 301 AD. The religion is deeply
and strongly rooted here.
The majority of the Armenians living in Armenia belong to the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox
church. The head of the church is the Catholicos of All Armenians, who resides in Holy
Echmiadzin.
Vayots Dzor is located in south-eastern Armenia. It’s the smallest Marz (Province) in Armenia,
covering 2.308 square kilometers, with a population of about 55 thousand people.
Vayots Dzor borders by marzes (provinces) are southeast Syunik Marz, northeast Ararat Marz and
north Gegharkunik.
With vast mountainous expanses, lush river valleys, breathtaking gorges, and mysterious caves,
Vayots Dzor has a wide variety of exceptional natural beauty. The pristine natural environment is
home to a dazzling array of animal and plant species.
The central town of Vayots Dzor is Yeghegnadzor. The other two main towns are Vayk and
Jermuk.
